With more tenants expecting their energy bills to reflect actual usage rather than being calculated based on floor area, accurate energy data is essential. But not all property owners have full control over their data.

Å Insite was brought in to provide energy data for automated tenant billing in a commercial building. As part of our process, we verify all existing measurement points – and that’s when we discovered the issue.

A small error with a big impact

The installed current transformers (CTs) were oversized, which caused a scaling error in the data. This error artificially inflated energy usage, making it look like tenants were consuming far more electricity than they actually were.

As a result, the real estate company had been unknowingly overbilling its tenants, fully trusting that the data was correct.

Once the issue was identified, the fix was simple – adjust the configuration. The company now monitors energy consumption automatically and sends out accurate invoices based on actual usage.
